It’s official: I’m running for re-election this year

I’m happy to announce I have decided to run for re-election this year. Below you will find the official news release I sent out. Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you during the campaign!

For Immediate Release

Onondaga County Legislator Mark Olson (10th District) has announced he plans to seek re-election this November.

“Public service has always been my passion, and the opportunity to represent the residents of the Town of Manlius is a responsibility I hold with great pride” Legislator Olson says. “I look forward to continuing my collaboration with town and village leaders, and working alongside my colleagues at the Legislature to advance many exciting and important projects in Onondaga County, and I remain committed to tackling the challenges that come with them.”

Legislator Olson has already received endorsements from the Onondaga County Republican Committee, the Conservative Party of Onondaga County and the Town of Manlius Republican Party.

Legislator Olson has served as Chair of the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee for the past several years. He’s a lifelong member of the Fayetteville Fire Department, having first volunteered at age 14, and
now uses the role of Chair to push for increased funding and training for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Emergency Management, and other related departments.

Public safety, housing and economic development continue to be Legislator Olson’s top three priorities. In the past year alone, he’s supported lower county property tax rates, funding for a Jiu Jitsu training program to teach law enforcement safer methods of dealing with uncooperative individuals, funding for a comprehensive study of EMS care in our county (everything from 911 dispatch through hospital care), and has supported housing and economic development initiatives designed to help Onondaga County
grow and thrive. He also sponsored a new local law to increase penalties for those who pass school buses with their red lights flashing, and additional funding for lead remediation training and work.

“I served as Fayetteville’s Mayor for 20 years and am able to take that experience and the lessons learned and bring it to the county level” Legislator Olson adds. “I understand the need to provide for our
community and ensure our residents have access to the programs, services and opportunities they need, but also understand the need to balance budgets and make sure there is no unnecessary and wasteful spending.”

He adds, “I believe it is important to work together with people with various views and ideas because we’re better together.”
