Listening to neighbors: Meadowbrook-Limestone Wastewater Treatment Plant to see upgrades

After listening to neighbors and pushing immediate action by Onondaga County, I am happy to announce that $11 MILLION in county funding has been allocated for work at the county’s Meadowbrook-Limestone Wastewater Treatment Plant, in our 10th District.
I co-sponsored a resolution to allocate money for critical upgrades at the facility on Manlius Center Road. It was passed unanimously by the entire Legislature at their September Session.
I’ve been hearing from neighbors near the facility since I was elected. They’ve shared their concerns and how their quality-of-life has been affected and we needed to do something, and I’m glad to say, we are.
The first phase of this project will be the creation of a Facility Plan, which is expected to be completed later this year. It will include a comprehensive engineering study to evaluate current challenges, increase operational efficiency and capacity, and develop a roadmap for long-term improvements as our community continues to grow. Site work is expected to begin early next year and will include aeration system upgrades, inflow and infiltration remediation, and odor control.
In addition to this $11 million investment, I also co-sponsored two resolutions that provide nearly $5 million in additional funding for projects across all facilities operated by the Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP). They are the county department which operates the Meadowbrook-Limestone facility and some of that money will be used for additional work at it.
I’m confident in WEP’s plans and their willingness and ability to address the concerns many of those living near the plant have raised. It is their voices that made this happen. Now, we’re moving forward and I thank our residents for their patience.
