I’m co-sponsoring legislation to give you a voice…

UPDATE: The local law passed at Session, so this now will go before the voters this fall.

I am co-sponsoring a local law which will be considered at our August Session. If it passes, both length of term and term limits for Onondaga County Legislators will be on the ballot this November. This will allow you – our residents – the chance to weigh in on whether we should serve 4 years instead of 2, and if we should be limited to three consecutive terms. Currently, there are no terms limits for Legislators.

I’m happy to tell you there is support for this from both Republicans and Democrats, because we all believe giving the public a say is the best option.

I support a 4 year term for Legislators because it will allow us to better focus our time and attention on the needs of constituents and county governance. Limiting the number of terms will encourage new individuals to seek elective office, while allowing for valuable experience on the Onondaga County Legislature.

I look forward to hearing any comments on this legislation, and if you have suggestions for improving it. Please email me at MarkOlson@ongov.net.
